The Center for Fire Safety Engineering (CFSE) at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura is to be officially inaugurated on 11 February 2026, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of fire safety research, testing, and education in Sri Lanka. The inauguration represents the culmination of sustained efforts in research development, institutional strengthening, and international collaboration aimed at establishing a national centre of excellence in fire safety engineering.
The CFSE will support high-quality research on the fire performance of buildings, structural systems, and construction materials, while providing testing services, technical consultancy, and professional training for the construction industry. The Center will also play a key role in capacity building by integrating fire safety engineering into undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing professional development programmes.
