Sri Lanka’s first structural fire testing facility

Advancing national fire safety standards through rigorous research, engineering excellence, and state-of-the-art testing facilities meeting international standards

Who We Are

Setting the Standard for Fire Safety Engineering

The Center for Fire Safety Engineering at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, established in 2022, is Sri Lanka’s first and only dedicated fire testing and research facility. Established to address the growing national and international need for evidence-based fire safety solutions, the center brings together advanced testing infrastructure, expert knowledge, and modern research capabilities. It enables a wide range of fire-related studies, including material testing, structural fire behaviour assessments, and performance-based evaluations, supporting the development of safer buildings and engineering practices.

Our Mission

To conduct advanced fire safety engineering research in Sri Lanka, and to disseminate knowledge and guidance in fire safety of buildings.

Key Objectives

Research Excellence

Conduct high-quality research on the fire safety of buildings

Material Evaluation

Evaluate the fire performance of building materials and products

Knowledge Creation

Create knowledge and expertise related to the fire safety of buildings

Education & Dissemination

Disseminate the knowledge by introducing fire safety engineering-related course/s to undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs, and to the industry
